From April 7 th until 11 th the U10 Tigers attended the Annual Bournemouth Classic Football Tour and came away worthy winners. The boys had to play 8 games in 3 days and with a squad of only 9 attending the tour, we knew that it was going to be a big challenge.
Tuesday 8 th was the first day of football, with 2 games on the agenda for us; the boys started very well winning the first game 1-0 and following that up with a convincing 3-0 win. So at the end of day 1 the young Swans were 2 nd in the table with a game in hand over 1 st place Harold Hill.
Wednesday 9 th had us playing 3 games, which meant an early start for the boys. For the 2 nd day running we won our 1 st game 1-0 and followed that up with a 2-1 win. The 3 rd game of the day had us playing Harold Hill in a top of the table
clash; we started the game brightly and were 1-0 up after a few minutes only to be pegged back to 1-1 just after half time. With about 5 minutes of the game remaining Newport kicked up a gear and started to bombard the Harold Hill goal, with the goalie making some good saves. In the last minute of the game Cookie swung in a superb corner which was met by the head of Ryan Keane and gave the keeper no chance, 2-1 Swans! So end of day 2 and we had gone top of the table with 5 wins out of 5!
Thursday 10 th and another 3 games, but the tournament was still very open. NPTFC started the day looking very nervy and drew our first 2 games 0-0. With only 1 game of the tournament remaining the boys only needed a point to secure the cup and they went out and won their remaining fixture 1-0! NPTFC were the Champions! As it turned out the last game in our group between the teams that could of still caught us, (had we not won our last game), finished a draw and we led the table by an impressive 5 points, with a final record as below. Ryan Keane also finished the tournament as top goal scorer with 9 goals to his name.
Played 8, Won 6, Drew 2, Lost 0, Scored 12, Conceded 2, Points 20
The presentation evening was the icing on the cake for the boys, with their winner's trophies and HUGE CUP, being presented to the team by Harry Redknapp!
Well done boys, we are all so proud of you all, not just for winning the tournament and representing the club against teams from all over the UK, but for the way you conducted yourselves (on and off of the pitch), throughout the whole tournament!
Cheers,
Owen & Dave
