Under 8 LIONS 2007-2008 Match Reports

19/04/08 Cranfield Colts vs. Newport Pagnell Lions

It was the first game the Lions played in three weeks, and the small pitch at cranfied didn't do us any favours. The 1 st period saw the Lions ball watching and not playing like they usually do. They weren't getting there tackles in, and the Colts punished them by scoring three goals 3-0. By the 2 nd period the lions were trying to play the ball around but didn't seem to find much space, we seemed to be asleep. The Colts scored again to make it 4-0, the game seemed all but over. By the 3 rd period the Lions came out looking more like the team they are, putting some good passes together and making some good tackles. The Lions won a corner, the ball was put in the box and Sam managed to get on the end of it 4-1. After that we had a number of chances with James coming close and Sam with a free kick, which he scored, but the referee disallowed it. By the end of that quarter the Colts scored again to make it 5-1. The 4 th period the game was more or less dead and buried and the Lions were just playing for pride, their heads didn't drop and they kept on battling. The Colts scored another two goals to finish the game off. The score line doesn't tell you anything about the game, because the Lions were the better side, trying to play football and not just shooting from anywhere. The pitch didn't help being a little on the small side and the ref, making some dodgy decisions.

Final Score: Cranfield Colts 7 Newport Pagnell Lions 1

Man Of The Match: James

Team: Ruben, Harry, Ben, Sam, Charlie, Toby, James.

29/03/08 Newport Pagnell Lions vs. Scot Youth

The Lions were at home today, the conditions were perfect for a great game of football. The first period saw the lions start really well with some great tackles being made all over the pitch. Half way through we won a throw in, in their half, Sam took a good throw to James who made a great through ball pass to Charlie, who went on to score a good goal, 1-0 to the lions. After that James came close to making it 2-0 with a dazzling run through the middle of the pitch, but just couldn’t find the net. Towards the end of the quarter Scot youth found the back of the net to make it 1-1.

The second period the Lions really defended well with Harry making some great tackles. Sam was working hard in midfield and Max was making some good runs up front. The Lions held on, still 1-1.

By the third period Dave made some changes, he put Toby in defence who really made some good tackles and Ben pushed up to midfield, he also played very well winning the ball in the air. Ruben who was back in goal this week made a few brave saves, keeping the score at 1-1.

The last quarter saw Scot Youth come back with another 2 goals, to make it 1-3. The Lions worked really hard though and Charlie, Max, and Sam all came close but couldn’t find the back of the net. The lions didn’t deserve to lose this one after playing some great football. Unlucky lads.

22/03/08 City Colts vs Newport Pagnell Lions

The lions were away at Middleton (city colts) today, it was very cold and windy. That didn’t stop the boys playing some really good football. The 1st period we started well, defending and attacking. 5 mins through James picked the ball up in midfield he ran towards goal, and made a good pass to Sam who found Charlie running into the box. Charlie hit it low into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 to the lions. By the 2nd period it was much of the same with Harry and Ruben, who made a rare appearance in defence, making some good tackles. Ben played well in midfield; the score remained at 1-0 to the lions. The 3rd period the boys done well, with Toby having a go in goal, and Brandon in defence we managed to hang on. The game really came to life in the last quarter; City Colts made it 1-1 early on. Then shortly after, James found max who took a great first touch, then found the back of the net to make it 2-1 to the Lions. The last 5 mins Charlie made good run down the left and had a good strike on goal, the keeper couldn’t hold on to it, and it turned into a goal scramble. Max James and Sam came close again but just couldn’t find the back of the net. In the dying seconds City Colts made it 2-2 after a good break on goal. Again the Lions were full of confidence, and were very unlucky not to get a win. Well done again Final score 2-2

15/03/2008 Newport Pagnell Lions vs. Mortonville Wanderers

After losing their last game 5-0, the lions were looking for a better performance this week. The first five minutes of the game the lions looked a bit nervous, and a lack of concentration saw them lose a goal to make it 1-0 to Mortonville. After that though, the lions seemed to get their act together, Harry and Ben defended well, the whole team played some great passing football. They won a corner Charlie put a good ball in for Sam to make a good finish 1-1. The second period it was all about the lions passing the ball through the team. Half way through Toby picked the ball up in midfield, and made a good pass to Charlie, who used his pace up the left wing. He took on a defender then from outside the box thundered the ball into the top corner to make it 2-1. By the third period the lions seemed to fall asleep a bit, and if it wasn't for some brave goalkeeping from Ruben, and some good tackling from Bandon we could have lost two goals. By the fourth period Mortonville scored again to make it 2-2, but after that it was all about the lions, with Max and James coming close to scoring and in the last minute Toby won a free kick on the edge of the box. Charlie stepped up to take it and came very close to getting the winner. This was one of the best performances from the lions, the whole team worked really hard on their passing, well done lads.
