21st January - A record crowd of 664 descended on Willen Road this afternoon to see the Swans crash out of the FA Vase to Northen League Ashington AFC.
First half goals from Daren Dykes and Dean Buss weren't enough to keep the Wembley dream alive.
A more detailed match report will follow.

First Team player Lewis Wilson (left) has left the Swans to sign for Northampton Town. He has been awarded a contract until the end of the season so that Cobblers Manager Aidy Boothroyd can have an extended look at him.
Lewis, who previously played for Rushden and Diamonds Under 18's, has come through the ranks at Willen Road having previously played here at youth level.
He is the first player for some time to make it in professional ranks and I'm sure you would like to join me in wishing him well for the future. |

| 24th January - The Swans dream of a third concecutive Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy were dashed last night with an extra time defeat at Windsor. Tied 1-1 after 90 minutes thanks to a Scott Mulkern goal, Windsor secured a berth in the next round with an extra time winner as the lads began to tire. |
22nd January - The dream of a trip to Wembley finally ended with a 3-2 defeat to Ashington at the last 32 stage of the FA Vase. A record crowd of 664 at Willen Road saw a dramatic first half in which Newport went two goals down early in the game but fought back to 2-2 with goals from Darren Dykes and Dean Buss, only to see Ashington take the lead again just before half time. The home team had more of the possession in a goalless second half but struggled to penetrate a well organised Ashington defence and there were few scoring chances for either team. Newport came close to equalising in the last few minutes, but the Ashington goalkeeper made an excellent save to push the ball around the post with his fingertips and take the visitors into the next round.
Despite the disappointment of this narrow defeat, reaching the last 32 of the FA Vase for the first time was a major achievement and there is still a lot to look forward to in the remainder of the season. A league finish in the top 4 or 5 is a realistic target, although Kings Lynn and Long Buckby seem out of reach. There are also quarter-finals in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy and the SUCL League Cup coming up soon.
The reserve team's recent good form has brought them three successive victories, scoring 9 goals and conceding only 1, and the under 18s won 3-0 against a good Chesham team.
Willen Road is a good place to be at the moment for anyone who wants to enjoy some live football and the club will be hoping that many in the record crowd who enjoyed the FA Vase game will continue their support and come back regularly. |
