Goal Post Safety

Football should be fun, safe and enjoyable, whether you play in a park, at school or for a local club. A number of serious injuries and even fatalities have occurred in recent years as a result of unsafe or incorrect use of goalposts. Safety is of paramount importance and everyone at NPTFC must play their part to ensure safety. The FA have guidance on goalpost safety on their site,

The four golden rules: Check It, Secure It, Test It, Respect It

A number of key factors must always be considered:-

Under no circumstances should children or adults climb, swing or play with the goalposts. If not properly secured and assembled the goalposts may topple over. Ground conditions can affect the stability of goals therefore it is important to use the appropriate ground fixings.

Before use of the portable steel goals manager/coaches should ensure each goal is anchored securely in place using the U Peg Anchors and mallets, which can be found in the youth kit shed.

Please note the following when setting up your pitch:
• Use two U Peg Anchors per goal and secure the back bar into the ground
• Do not allow children/adults to swing or climb on the goal frame or nets - instruct your players on the potential dangers
• Ensure a minimum of 4 adults move each goal - under no circumstances should players be moving goals
• After use please store the goals post to post away from the pitch, so the goals can be chained together, and return the U Peg Anchors and mallets to the youth kit shed.
